Welcome to the ADM Learning blog. It’s been a long time in the making.
The first time I created a blog was back in 2010, when I took a year off to travel overseas. I had wanted to stay connected with my friends and family, and to share all my exciting travel stories with them.
Fast forward several years, and this blog is similar in a couple of ways. First, I want to use it to stay in touch with my professional network. That includes anyone I’ve met through business, volunteering, or grad school, as well as previous, current, and prospective clients.
Second, I’m passionate about helping people, and I can think of no better way to do that than to share what I know with others. Most of what I’ll be writing about is focused on adult learning in the workplace, with a strong emphasis on mobile and e-learning. So even if we haven’t crossed paths yet, you’ll still find a ton of great stuff to explore.
Although it should be obvious, I’m going to be up front that I’m writing from a business perspective. This blog is one of the ways I’ll be establishing awareness of my services and solidifying my credibility as an expert in mobile and online workplace learning.
What should you expect?
I’m currently pursuing my MA in Learning and Technology at Royal Roads University, so I’ll be relying heavily on my studies to create original content. But don’t worry – I’ll be reworking everything I write for grad school to make it more palatable for a business crowd.
I’ll also be omitting all in-text academic citations to make my posts easier to read, but I’ll link to resources if I think they’ll be helpful for you, and I’ll include a reference list for you at the end of each post.
In addition to creating my own original content, I’ll also be curating content written by others. That means I’ll be keeping an eye out for online articles and resources that might be helpful for you.
My goal is to post at least weekly for the first three months. Then I’ll see where I’m at, and if I have the capacity, I’ll start publishing more often. I’d love to get up to the point where I’m posting at least three times a week, but writing new content is a serious investment of time, and I’m not sure if that will be possible. I won’t know until I try!
Because my MA will drive the majority of my content, and the program is two-years, I’ll need to revisit this blog in 2019 and decide if it makes sense for me to continue it. A big part of that decision will be whether I’ve established a strong readership and if you find the blog useful.
How can we stay connected?
You can find all my content here, at admlearning.com/blog.
I’ll also be sharing my content on social media, starting with LinkedIn. I’m still on the fence about whether I should be sharing my content on Twitter, Facebook, and/or Instagram, since I haven’t been using those networks for business in the past. (If you have any thoughts on that, let me know.)
If you don’t have time to check back here regularly, and don’t want to miss seeing something on social media, you can also sign up for my monthly e-newsletter. I’m launching it as the same time as this blog, and it will include only the best of what I’ve published in the last month, plus a quick update on what I’ve been up to.
Writing for an audience of no one is de-motivating, so if you like what you read, or if you have thoughts you’d like to share, please let me know! Post a comment, send me a private message, share the post with your network, or connect with me on social media. Honestly, I’d love to hear from you.
On that note, your input would be invaluable as I get started on this blogging journey. How did you came to end up here and what would you like to see in future posts? Let me know.
That’s all for now.
